Hello Paradise!

First and foremost, I would again like to thank Joe Pallozzi for his dedicated leadership over the past two years.

Second, I want to remind you that the Paradise Community Association continues to welcome all interested neighbors to become members. Simply complete the application and either bring it to our next meeting or mail it to us. Our association is only as strong as the strength in our numbers, so please consider joining.

As old man winter gets closer and closer, it is time to think about some basic winterization projects:

caulk around windows, insulate your attic, replace any old and drafty windows, replace your furnace filter, cover your outside A/C unit and check your car’s battery and coolant level.

If you attended our last meeting, you were made aware of some the criminal activities that recently occurred in or near our neighborhood. Please remember to turn your front and back porch lights on at night, lock your car every time you leave it and NEVER open your door to anyone you do not know. Also, please report any suspicious activities as well as any criminal activities to the police as soon as you observe them.

Again, anyone interested in a community watch can contact me at the above number.

Please take a moment to ask your next door neighbor if they are interested in joining PCA…there is strength in numbers.

A thank you goes out to the following for their help at last month’s community clean-up: Mary Roney, Mary Claire Jeske, Bill Geary, Bud Hampton, Joe and Pat Pallozzi and Stuart Merenbloom. Besides helping clean up our neighborhood, this activity helped increase PCA’s membership as we signed up some new members during the clean-up.

Be a Good Neighbor

Please remember to “look in” on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are alright. Also remember to shovel your sidewalks within 24 hours after a snow fall.

Let’s Take a Bite Out of Crime

We have all heard about the recent criminal activities that have taken place near our neighborhoods. Things stolen, break- ins and muggings could happen to any of us. Many communities have started Citizens on Patrol programs that can help reduce criminal activity. Once again, PCA is asking for a few volunteers to patrol our neighborhoods and report any suspicious activities to the police.

Anyone that can volunteer a few hours a week can contact Stuart Merenbloom at smerenbloom@verizon.net.

Let’s take a few simple common sense steps that could prevent a crime against us: turn your front and back porch lights on at night, make sure your car is locked every time you get out, keep all valuables out of sight- in your trunk, make sure your doors are locked whenever you leave home, never open your door to a stranger, ask for identification should someone seek entry into your home claiming to be a utility worker or officer, if you have a home security system-use it (many of us have one but forget to activate it when we leave home and NEVER give anyone your security code.

Paradise’s Cooking Corner

The Oasis will feature a seasonal recipe submitted by our readers for all of our neighbors to try and enjoy. In keeping with this holiday season, we offer this quick, easy and tasty holiday stuffing recipe: one loaf of any stuffing bread, a bag of ready to eat chestnuts, one medium sized onion, a stalk of celery and a large container of chicken broth. Mince the veggies, fry them in a little olive oil, cube the bread and place in a large bowl, add the veggies and broth to the bread, stir mixture, place in a greased baking pan, bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes and enjoy. Calling All Gardeners

Anyone interested in putting together an informal group of volunteer gardeners to help beautify our community? The idea is to start a plant stock bank of sorts and use the stock in common areas such as the short trail line that cuts through our neighborhood to begin with. There are many other possibilities as well. The Catonsville post office may be another. Let’s put our heads and hands together and see what we can come up with. At the very least, it will be nice to think about gardening as the days get shorter and colder! Any interested gardeners can contact Stuart Merenbloom at smerenbloom@verizon.net.

Hello Paradise!

Another year ending for our association, and it’s time for me to step down after two years as president. I’d like to thank the officers and board members served with me, as well as all those members and residents who got involved, at meetings, or contacted me on our community issues. Please continue to show your support of the PCA by coming to our October meeting paying your dues, and voting in next year’s officers and board and continuing to remain involved throughout the year.

Councilman Quirk has decided to support the PUD for Steve Whalen’s proposed medical building. As requested, I wrote a letter stating that after Mr. Whalen presented his proposed plan to us, we voted, as an association, against supporting the project. I hand delivered the letter to the councilman’s office.

Please remember Halloween safety and leave your lights on for the children.

Volunteers Needed !!!

We need volunteers to help during our community clean up. Anyone, especially someone with a truck willing to pick up large materials that will go into the dumpsters, please call Joe.

IT IS COMMUNITY CLEAN UP TIME!

The Paradise community clean up day is on Saturday Oct 22 from 8-12. The dumpsters will be located in the rear parking lot of the 6400 block of Frederick Ave. The driveway is between the strip mall and the BMW repair shop. All regular household waste is acceptable. There will be folks from the Paradise Community Association to help direct you to the dumpsters. We will also have applications available for those that wish to join or pay the dues on that day. The following materials are restricted: electronic products, A/C units, refrigerators, and hazardous materials. The county informs us that yard waste can all be picked up from your street or alley. If you have reusable building materials such as lighting or plumbing fixtures, cabinets, doors, hardware and similar items that still have life left in them you may take them to the Cockeysville or the White Marsh facility all year. The sign will say “Reusable Building Material”. The community clean up is open to ALL Paradise residents. Non members of the PCA who participate in the community clean up are encouraged to become members of the PCA. Members will be available to sign you up after you drop off your waste. All contributions will be cheerfully accepted!
